In my never ending quest to get healthy, I often jump on the bandwagon for certain food or exercise trends. I'm not talking fads or unhealthy diets, but random food crazes like avocado toast or chia seeds. Right now I'm dabbling in the creation of smoothie bowls. It all begin a few years ago when I tried a smoothie shop called Peeled. They specialize in beautiful and delicious smoothie bowls, and it seemed simple enough for me to make my own.

Disclaimer: making these bowls took me hours. They were pretty, and they were tasty, but they were time-consuming. That's probably because I am a perfectionist and made four instead of one, but that's besides the point. What I mean to say is: smoothie bowls are fun and Instagram-worthy, but may take a little longer to create than your average breakfast of cereal and a banana. Regardless, these four recipes are awesome, work well as plain smoothies or as bowls, and can be manipulated to include whatever ingredients you want.

  1. I love the idea of a smoothie bowl, but they have so much sugar! That berry one easily has 40-50 grams of sugar.
