Oh, June. There were a lot of emotions in this month. Between high school graduation and college orientation, it's safe to say I had a lot of ups and downs. I can't lie -- I've been slacking off a lot. Admittedly, I feel a bit lost. I guess I'm trying so hard to find myself, not realizing that my identity will come regardless of whether or not I search for it.
In the spirit of trying to eat healthier, some friends and I decided to check out a smoothie place called Peeled that resides in a couple downtown Chicago locations. The one we went to was tucked away in downtown Evanston and did not disappoint.
The shop offers a variety of smoothie and fresh juice options in addition to a handful of packed salads and bottled juices. The real stars of the show however, are the acai bowls that are so popular amongst healthy eaters nowadays. I went for the "Little Miss Sunshine", which was a blend of acai, banana, mango, pineapple, and coconut water and was topped with bananas, strawberries, blueberries, coconut shreds, and drizzled with honey. It was arranged beautifully and tasted even better than it looked.
These are a great way to start your day because acai berries have a ton of antioxidants and fiber, plus the rest of the fruit have health benefits and natural sugars that give you energy but don't allow for that inevitable crash. I would highly recommend giving Peeled a go, and if not, make your own acai bowl!
Have you tried acai bowls?

Finally, the summer that I've been looking forward to with an impending sense of both excitement and dread is upon us. This is the last summer before I leave for college, a summer of teetering in between two things, the summer of being on the cusp of something (hopefully) great, the summer before a new adventure begins.
