So, it looks like winter is upon us *insert crying face*. I take solace in the thought that while it's incredibly cold and snowy, I'll be bundled up in sweaters, beanies, and scarves. Yeah. So I posted an activities bucketlist for winter a few weeks ago, and I'll be posting a fashion bucketlist in a few weeks. Without further ado, here is the list of things I'll be wearing on my face for the next few months.
For the eyes:
I'm not a huge fan of a lot of glitter on the eyes, (well, I'm not really a fan of it anywhere, to be frank) but when the holidays roll around I do enjoy a bit of shimmer on my lids. Worn with a thick stripe of black liquid liner (may I recommend Stila's?) and lots of mascara, this can be a winning winter look.
Urban Decay Naked Palette in Sidecar and Half Baked
Ah, the classic Naked Palette. Whenever I pull this out, I'm reminded of why I loved it so much for a long time. The shadows are so smooth and pigmented, and each color applies true to how it looks in the palette. When I wear these shadows they last all day and when I apply them they blend together so seamlessly. Sidecar and Half Baked are two of the most shimmery in the palette, Sidecar being a taupe/beige and Half Baked being a gold.
These are a really similar quality to Urban Decay's: soft, pigmented, long lasting, blendable - the works. Honey Pot is almost an exact duplicate of Half Baked, except it's slightly less glittery. It looks amazing blended out on the lid.
This shadow is gorgeous. It's not quite as soft as the previous two, but it's still just as pigmented and still has great lasting power. The shade itself is very brightening and luminous, so it's great for an inner corner or brow bone highlight. It's got a bit of a pink undertone, but it's so slight that it's almost unnoticeable.
Mac Eyeshadow in All That Glitters
Now this is one of my all time favorite shadows. It's got amazing pigmentation and staying power, plus it blends so beautifully and seamlessly. I can always count on this shadow to bring light to my face and give it an illuminated look when I'm looking a little dull.
Stila Eyeshadow in Kitten
Lastly we have my (sadly) broken Kitten. This is typically my favorite highlighter to use on my cheekbones, especially in the spring and summer, but for winter I think it looks beautiful on the lids. Once again it has a brightening effect, so it could also be used for a brow/inner corner highlight. This powder is so soft and buildable, so it can be used lightly for a highlight and layered for eyeshadow.
Onto the lips:
Red lips are obviously a must for the holiday season, and I've recently found a few that I feel great and comfortable wearing.
Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple
This is the red for someone who's really not into full-on, bright, opaque color. The beauty of the lip butters is that they can be dabbed very subtly into the lips and can be a hint of color, or they can be worn as a more opaque, glossy color. I especially love wearing this in the first way because it gives that perfect touch of red that makes me feel like I'm Snow White or something...I don't even know, but I love it.
Revlon Matte Balm in Standout
This is the red for someone who wants something a little bit darker, but still wants red. The shade isn't quite a wine/berry tone, but it's not quite a classic red. I love these Matte Balms because they're amazingly easy to apply. They're also hydrating, which is a must for me when wearing matte colors. Even with this hydration they still have decent lasting power, although I wouldn't recommend leaving this at home, because you'll still need to touch it up.
Maybelline Matte Lipstick in Siren in Scarlet
This is from Maybelline's new line of matte lipsticks, and it's so incredible. I'm a huge fan of the regular lipsticks, and they really hit the nail on the head for these matte ones. They're basically as moisturizing as the originals, plus they last for hours and hours. The shade is also fairly true to what it looks like in the bullet, so that's very helpful. This is almost a true, classic red, but it's slightly more pink/raspberry.
L'oreal Lipstick in British Red
This is the classic, true red. It's not matte, which I actually don't like as much for a full on red lip, but I manage to wear this by blotting it down or topping it with some translucent powder. The nice thing about this lipstick is that it's very hydrating, considering that it has a glossy finish. You'll definitely need to take this one with you for touch-ups as well.
Revlon Lip Gloss in Fire
I believe this product is being discontinued, so some similar ones are the Revlon Moisture Stain in Shanghai Sizzle and the L'oreal Liquid Lipstick in Ruby Opera. But you get the idea, these are obviously glossier reds, but since they're stains/liquid lipsticks they stay on better and are more moisturizing.
Lastly, the one exception to the glitter rule:
I love breaking out this nail polish for the holidays, just because it's so festive! This is the OPI Polish in Bold, which is from their designer collection. It looks great on every nail or as just an accent.
What beauty look do you go for in the winter?
And a final note:
I hope you all have a very happy holiday filled with love, family, friends, and giving. I'll be going on a small blogging hiatus, but I'll be back in about a week and a half to two weeks. See you then!

So I'm not typically someone who follows everything that celebrities are doing, but I couldn't help noticing that Kylie Jenner's lips have been insane lately. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of her (no hate or anything, it's just my personal opinion), but I really like the lip color she's been sporting. It's kind of a dark, carmel-y nude, and I found a few products that I think recreate it pretty well.

Recently one of my favorite youtubers, Troye Sivan, releasing an amazing video entitled 'Becoming You'. It centered around the idea of being yourself, exactly who you want to be, fueled by the quote "Life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself".

So recently I had a bit of a bad day (wanna read an old post on how I cope with bad days? Here you go) and I had a sneaky impulse buy...I know, I shouldn't have, but I'm not even sorry considering how much I love this product. I went for the Lorac Pro Palette 2, and I cannot get over how phenomenal it is.

A little while back I posted this, which went through all the different nude-colored products I have in my beauty collection. Now I'm moving on to my favorite color, which is purple. I don't have any lip products in this one (purple lips aren't really my thing..), but I've got some great eye products and a few nail polishes.

I hope everyone's having a good start to their autumn! I recently went on the hunt for a few more fall-toned lipsticks, and one I went for was the new Nars Audacious Lipsticks. The shade I got was Audrey, which is described as a "red current" color.

I absolutely love fall fashion because I love layering. So far I've been into flannels (as I mentioned in my fall bucketlist), skater skirts, and boots with tights and socks. Warning: there's a lot of pictures. I just couldn't choose between some because I loved the fall scenery!

I love listening to a certain playlist when I need to relax, calm down, or fall asleep (I have pretty bad insomnia, and listening to some music helps me to feel sleepier). It includes a lot of chill, slow songs, which is a bit different from some of the other playlists I've posted (Long Car Ride Playlist here and Exercise Playlist here). Nonetheless, I hope this gives you a few new songs to listen to!

Recently I redid my makeup storage, and during the process I organized some of my makeup by color. It occurred to me that it would be cool to showcase each color collection and talk about what I like and don't like about each product. I do have one disclaimer with all of my nude lip products: I hate the color of most of them. It's pretty hard for me to find nude lipsticks that don't wash me out, so I have quite a few fails. Nevertheless, starting with lip products, here are all my nude colored products...

Getting dressed up for school is one of my favorite things, even if I hate actually going. I put together a few outfits that show some pieces that I think are great to have for school. Some are more comfortable, and some are a little dressed up. You can also check out my beauty essentials for back to school here!

A few days ago I spent the day with my mom in an area of Chicago called Old Town, which has a ton of great restaurants, boutiques, thrift stores, etc. It's such a fun place to be in, and I had an amazing time walking around, people watching, and going in the stores. One of my favorite stores was called Judy Maxwell General Store, which had a collection of eclectic things such as cards, jewelry, mugs...I could go on and on. I found the most adorably hilarious pair of socks that I just had to share.

I don't want to accept it...but my summer break is officially over. Even though I'm excited for my last year of high school, I'm still dreading the thought of sitting in class and having a ton of homework to do. The only way I can actually motivate myself to go to school is by picking out cute outfits and by doing my makeup. My go-to school look is usually flawless skin & emphasized eyes, so most of the products I'm going to talk about revolve around that. Also, if you check back in a couple of weeks I'll have a post up about my favorite clothes/outfits for school!

Fast paced music is one of the only things that helps me get through a long workout. I have a playlist of around 50 songs that I listen to for the hour that I work out, which includes running, biking, rowing, etc. During workouts I like to listen to things that are more rock and alternative, because I feel like it gets me to work harder. There's a handful of these songs that I listen to specifically when I'm running, and those are italicized.

So...I thought it would be cool to look through different brands and find products that are supposed to be the same or similar and compare them all together. For example, I'd take a lipstick from Revlon, one from Maybelline, one from Covergirl, etc. and compare them to each other. It'd be an interesting way to see the pros and cons of each, and it would be helpful in deciding which is the best to buy.

Okay...where has the summer gone? I can't believe I have less than a month before school starts. Well, as always, I've loved a few different things this month. I have considerably less makeup favorites because my summer job is as a camp counselor and I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup. However, I have a few more lifestyle favorites, so keep reading if you're into that...

I mentioned in my summer bucketlist that one thing I wanted to do was DIY shirts. The first style I tried was adding a front pocket, or a frocket, to a plain shirt. There's plenty of cute options that you can buy at a regular store, but I wanted something that was a cheaper alternative.
Well that's a mouthful.
Here's my hair story: After 17 years of dark brown hair, I decided it was time for a change. The lilac hair trend had been on my mind, so I crafted the idea of doing a purple-ombre type thing. I was pleased with the idea. My mom, on the other hand, was not. However, after begging and pleading she took me to a salon where they bleached the bottom half of my hair and then dyed it purple. This seems like a fairly simple process, yet there have been plenty of bumps along the road. I was previously aware of and expecting some of the problems I've dealt with, but some I wish I had known beforehand. So here is a compilation of all the things I have experienced from dyeing my hair...

I'm going to my cousins' lakehouse this weekend, and the drive there and back is pretty long. I decided to make a playlist of my absolute favorite songs to listen to, which ended up being about 250 songs. I narrowed it down to my top 100, which I know is still a lot, but if you're a music nut like I am, you'll love having a peek into someone else's music taste. So, here are my top 100 songs for a long car ride...

Recently I've found that as it's gotten hotter where I live, my makeup hasn't been lasting as long. Yes, I raved about the Benefit Porefessional Primer in my April Favorites, and I still believe that it's an amazing primer for covering pores and imperfections. However, I think my makeup needs something a little more to help it to last all day in the summer. I decided to try layering two different primers, and I've been loving the results.

Today I wanted to share something small, but meaningful, that brightened up my day a bit. I was captain of a team at my school this year, and I received these flowers today at our end of season banquet. This was something small that helped make my day a lot better, and will continue to make me happy when I see them sitting by my window.
March 11, 2014 • Beauty, Liquid Eyeliner, Review
A few weeks ago my beloved Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner (full review here) dried out. As much as I loved it, I wanted to see if I could find a cheaper option. Along came the L'Oréal Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner.
I have mixed feelings about this liner. My favorite thing about it is that it has a semi flexible felt tip, which makes it incredibly easy to apply. It's a very intensely pigmented black, which is another plus. My one problem deals with the staying power. Even with an eye primer on, I still found that after a few hours I had a slight case of raccoon eyes..that is to say some of the liner had fallen under my eyes. The next time I wore this liner I topped it off with some matte black eye shadow, and I found that this helped the liner stay in place. This was a slight nuisance to me because I have so little time to get ready in the morning- but I think I can bear with it because besides this, the liner was really good.
I can't say that it was quite as good as the Stila one, because that one lasts all day without being set with an eye shadow, but it was definitely a hit in the rest of the categories. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind putting a little extra time into doing their eyeliner. And at less than half the price of the Stila one, I'd say this is a bargain.
